About NeuroStar TMS

NeuroStar TMS is another treatment option that’s not another medication.  NeuroStar is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy that uses focused magnetic pulses, similar to an MRI, to reignite dormant synapses in the brain and help the brain function the way it was meant to.   It is not a drug, “shock” therapy, or surgery. It is a safe, effective treatment for MDD without the common side effects of medication.

NeuroStar TMS therapy is an outpatient treatment that takes as little as 19 minutes per session. A study of real-world outcomes reported an 83% response rate and a 62% remission rate in adult patients.2   NeuroStar is the only treatment clinically proven to be effective through 12 months in treatment-resistant depression (TRD) patients.3

Many NeuroStar patients start to see improvement within 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, which can include changes in mood, fewer days of depression, and increased desire to engage with other people more often.  As with any therapy, completion is key. Completing the full NeuroStar treatment course gives the best chance for long-lasting relief from depression.

NeuroStar is covered by most major insurance companies, including Medicare and New York Medicaid.

NeuroStar is FDA-cleared for adults with MDD, as an adjunct for adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder, to decrease anxiety symptoms in adult patients with MDD that may exhibit comorbid anxiety symptoms (anxious depression), and as a first line adjunct for the treatment of MDD in adolescent patients aged 15-21.
